Baptism is a symbol. A symbol where I as a child, a teenager, or an adult make a decision to publicly identify with Jesus Christ. I was baptized as an older elementary student with two other guys and three other girls. But it was my decision. I love it that whenever we have a baptism at the FC, we have kids, teens, and adults that stand up and say, “I’m committed to this Christ thing. Thank you Jesus for saving me!” It reminds me of the day 25 years ago that I jumped in the water and told my church in Fremont, Ohio that…
I read this earlier this morning as I caught up on my blogs, and couldn’t stop laughing for almost 5 minutes. It reminded me of my days in this place.
Last week my message focused on baptism, and how important it is for us to be able to choose whether or not we identify with Christ at a time when we can actually choose to identify with Him.
I am excited this Sunday morning, June 1st, to be able to experience the baptism of an elementary student, a new mother, and a retired mother, who have come forward to publicly declare that they are now following Christ!
We also showed a baptism video from Mark Batterson’s church in Washington DC. It was pretty inspiring, and I received a lot of comments about how it touched people, and even some comments about how convicting it was as they remembered their own baptism and how maybe they’ve lost that fire.
This weekend, one of the things we’ll be focusing on at Fellowship Church is baptism. If you know someone who is thinking about who God is or who has just started reaching out to Him, this will be an incredible message for them to hear. For those of you who are already full engrossed in all things baptism , then it will be a good reminder of that time that you took a step to publicly identify yourself with Christ.
But we will also be focusing on something new – a new way that Fellowship Church uses technology to fulfill our mission of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Also, I’ll be sharing with the church about our upcoming new series we’ll be starting in June.
“To reach who no one else is reaching, we have to do what no one else is doing”
p.s. I had this fantastic story to share with you in this post, but after I finished, for some reason it didn’t save, and I lost most of my work. So, either because I was too lazy to type it again or because I felt that probably I wasn’t supposed to share it, It remains in my head.
This weekend at Fellowship Church we’ll be starting a new series called “Something old, something new.” Over the next two weeks, we will be highlighting two of the church ordinances that we practice: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. There will also be “something new” in the form of technology. We will be highlighting two technologies that we use at Fellowship Church to fulfill our vision of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
On June 1st, we will be baptizing several people who have decided to take this step of obedience.
Beyond the next two weeks, I am so excited to be able to announce this Sunday the series that we’ll be doing in June. It is a revolutionary event that will not only influence FC, but THE CHURCH!
This year - live different!
