Be like you for Him
In America, we have a church on every corner, yet we’re still looking for the power of God. Could it be that the power of God is found not in a place, but when the individual decides to die to themselves and become, not like Paul or John or Peter, but become the person God created them to be, here in this culture?

have you read frances chan’s new book – forgotten God?
Nope. I haven’t yet.
Forgotten God is a good book–easy to read, as well.
About your post: yes.
The heart of your comment is right on the money, but the initial wording betrays part of the problem: our typical concept of what church is.
“In America,” it should say, “we have a church BUILDING on every corner.” We must thoroughly re-work and re-imagine our understanding of what the Church is, first of all.
Church is not a building; church is not an event; church is a people. Further (because on this point so many people agree, yet miss the actual ramifications), church is not just a people who meet in a building; and church is not just a people who attend an event; church is simply us–born-again, blood-washed believers in Jesus. Our gatherings together are but momentary expressions and out-workings of a continual life lived with another in true community.
Are we a true community of believers first before being common attendees of a particular event that meets in a particular building? Or vice versa.
Not really what you’re getting at, but I just wanted to dovetail on the words “church” and “place” found in your post
Keep seeking Him . . . peace!
