Evil Alliance or A Good Idea?

This morning I woke up and scrolled through some sites on my phone. The first was Youversion.com. Great sight and I would encourage you to use it as much as possible. The next site which I found myself was Google news. I love Google News because they are a source for almost every news outlet. I found this very disturbing article here about Iran placing restrictions on the news media. About an hour later, I was reading some blogs and found myself at my friend Pete’s blog, which is very insightful. Pete talked about this news coverage piece of “news” where President Obama is getting comfortable with ABC news. One of my strengths is connectedness. This strength helps me connect things in my mind that sometimes are connected and sometimes are not. But this is a really big one I’m going to need your help on, whether your liberal or conservative.

Defintely not ok. The President should never show a bias toward one outlet/source over any other. Is President Obama paving the way for a media source that only prints, writes and reports only what he says. Where are the checks and balances here???
Also, wasn’t it CBS news that had the huge fall a couple years ago, becuase they didn’t check the facts of a story they covered?
I say that the founding fathers ahd it right when they said givernment should not sponsor, maintain or support any religion. Did they also ahve in mind that there should eb a separation of Media and State?
The media is powerful. ABC is probably the most left leaning network out of the major networks. This alliance between the Obama Admin and ABC should be no surprise. What troubles me about this is that this will be a one sided with no opportunity for opposing views. This alliance was calculated. Americans need to wise up and see how big government Obama is. Two thumbs down!
Meh. As if any news we get nowadays is fair and balanced. Everyone has an agenda. Everyone is biased.
What we have going for us, unlike countries like Iran, is that in America the government doesn’t have as much control over lines of communication. With the rise of services like twitter, the truth will eventually get out.
Yes! Possibly the first time “Meh” has been used on my blog. thanks Ian.
This is definitely NOT Ok. The primary purpose of a so called “free press” as intended by our founding fathers and as is necessary for a free and open democracy is to examine the claims and actions of our government and provide transparency to both. This is nothing short of not only FAILING in their duty to do so, but actually acting as a government mouthpiece in an effort to push an agenda (in this case, nationalized health care). It would be one thing if this was part of ABC’s “commentary” division or produced by some “pundit” or something of the likes (think Olberman or Maddow etc.), but it isn’t. This is their NEWS division that is supposed to be unbiased in every way.
Now, that being said (and a tip of the hat to Ian’s point), its certainly more HONEST than most media outlets these days. At least in this instance they’re being open about the fact that they have abandoned their principals and are completely in the tank and campaigning for someone or something rather than the normal SOP of claiming to be “unbiased” all the while framing stories and skewing facts to meet their agenda.
I honestly don’t know how a democracy can be expected to survive as such though if we lose the ability to hold our elected officials accountable by first losing the objectivity of those who report on them.
Apparently its worse than originally reported…Drudge just broke the story that ABC is also refusing to air paid advertisements from groups with opposing viewpoints during their “special”. http://www.drudgereport.com/flashaot1.htm
