The 2008 Bloggle Awards

Sep 25 2008

And now it’s time for the 2nd Bloggle awards, an award ceremony that happens every 6 months here on martyholman.com, giving the common person (like the author) access to some amazing blogs on the web 2.0.  Hopefully, we’ll get some acceptance speeches.

Most focused blog
Nominees:
Ethos: a cultural Watercooler by Randy Elrod;  From where I sit by Michael Hyatt; Gotcha by Jake Holman;  History in the making by Ben Arment;  Reluctant Republicans for McCain by Clay Davis
THE WINNER:  History in the making by Ben Arment
Anything this guy writes is gold.  He’s somewhere around brilliant and then some.  His focus is creativity in the church.

Best blog, comedy
Nominees:
Rainy Day Communications by Katie Ferguson; Stuff Christians like by the Prodigal John; Don Miller is by Donald Miller;  Vince Antonucci by Vince Antonnuci
THE WINNER:  Stuff Christians Like by The Prodigal John.  Wildly funny, and will make you laugh out loud in your office every time you dare to read it.

Best blog, story
Nominees:
Trek to the summit
by Tom Hogsed;  Scott Hodge by Scott Hodge;  Jenn with 2 n’s by Jenn;  Connecting with Pastor Mike by Mike Laurence
THE WINNER:
Jenn with 2 N’s by Jenn

Best blog, pastor
Nominees:
Velocity by Dave Ferguson; Leading Smart by Tim Stevens;  Life Church.tv:  Swerve by Craig Groeschel and Bobby Gruenewald;  Perry Noble dot com by Perry Noble;  Tony Morgan Live by Tony Morgan;  Without Wax by Pete Wilson
THE WINNER:
Life Church.TV:  Swerve by Craig Groeschel and Bobby Gruenewald.  This was the hardest to judge.  These blogs are amazing!

Best blog post
Nominees:
“A couple of my rules for startups” by Mark Cuban (March 14, 2008);  “Creating WOW product experiences” by Michael Hyatt (May 17, 2008);  “The Lifetime of an opportunity” by Steven Furtick (July 30, 2008);  “The Secret of the web” by Seth Godin (August 11, 2008);  “The Bible said so” by Winn Collier (September 2, 2008);  “What Complaining says about you”, by Ben Arment (September 9, 2008);  “Palin, Religion, and how Secualrism is out of touch” by Dale Fincher (September 15, 2008)
THE WINNER:
“The Secret of the Web” by Seth Godin (August 11, 2008).  This was not an easy task.  I have so many subscriptions to blogs and highlight very few of them, but very few of so many is still a lot.  These are all excellent posts, written originally by the authors.

Best blog, pictures
Nominees:
It’s all going to change by Kevin and Jen Richardson;  Mark Beeson by Mark Beeson;  Ethos:  A Cultural Watercooler by Randy Elrod
THE WINNER:
Ethos:  A Cultural Watercooler by Randy Elrod  Randy always helps me to think more artsy than I really am.  He bring out the culture in me, and I don’t use that term scientifically.

Best blog, intellectual
Brazen Careerist by Penelope Trunk;  Dale Fincher by Dale Fincher;  Jeffs Deep Thoughts by Jeff Campbell;
Jenn with 2 N’s by Jenn;  Winn Collier by Winn Collier
THE WINNER:  Winn Collier by Winn Collier. I’m pretty sure his nominated post for best blog post won him this award.

I wish I knew him or her (no winners, just a list of 3)
Steven Furtick by Steven Furtick
Flowerdust.net by Anne Jackson
Blog Maverick by Mark Cuban

I’m glad I know him or her (no winners, just a list of 3)
Mill Industries by Eric Mill

  1. Thanks so much Marty. I am deeply honored. And focused. So that’s all I can write. =)

  2. Aye! Indeed, thank you!

  3. Wow, that is awesome Marty. Thanks for even having me on your radar. I appreciate it. I got to meet Anne Jackson last week and you were right to put her on your “I wish I knew him or her” list. Unlike Mark Cuban, I don’t think she would have traded Steve Nash. I have no proof of this, but it’s a gut feeling.

  4. Ladies and Gentlemen, members of the press, global cultural elite, and of course, most notably: the every astute and discerning (other than college choices) Marty Holman.

I accept your nomination. I accept your award. I accept all your accolades. I would especially accept any prize money that might accompany such an illustrious honor.

For years, I have labored to be considered intellectual (see previous comment about college choices). I have pined after such a moniker – and now, at last, I’ve found it. (and for you who share my dream, using words like “moniker” apparently help, whether we actually know what they mean or not)

And this comes at the perfect time. I was just about to surrender my quest and go after something a little more in reach. But you have saved the dream (or at least postponed the inevitable).

Thank you. Truly, I thank you.

  5. Thanks for the nomination. Maybe next year. I’m honored to be nominated along such an amazing groups of pastors!!

  6. I’m speechless.

  7. I’m glad I know you as well…probably more so now that all these big time blog peeps have commented your blog. haha. Good post man, great resources.

  8. also this, I can’t believe no one thanked God in their acceptance speeches like they do on MTV

  9. [...] love the blog world. I held the 2008 Boggle awards recently here at martyholman.com, and while I was checking out the nominees for the award [...]

  10. Thanks for the nomination. Good to be noticed. You just never know who is reading! Furthermore, I’d like to thank google alerts for alerting me to my nomination! Google is always watching… always watching.

  11. Unfortunately Dave Ferguson could not be here. Accepting the nomination on behalf of Dave Ferguson… Never mind! Thanks!!

  12. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am. You could have at least made a category especially for me… “Glad I don’t know him or her” comes to mind! :)

  13. Thanks for spending so much time trawling around the net – there’s some really good stuff here that I haven’t come across before.

  14. True story: Once upon a time this cool dude named Marty used to come to Starbucks with his pal Lonnie. Marty never drank coffee, and Lonnie tried to pay with Dunkin Donuts cards. We’ve been mutually appreciative ever since.

I feel a strange combination of “honoured,” “baffled,” “flattered,” and “unworthy” about my award. Particularly because I have scarcely blogged in, say, four months. Also because my name’s in there with a whole bunch of people who actually know how to use their computers and, say, the internet. But it’s pretty cool, too, and hey–who am I to decline an award offered by someone who actually knows how to use his computer and the internet? I accept, I accept! Thanks, Marty!

  15. What about best use of an animal name in their blogname?
Or maybe…a fellow former guy from Georgia blog?

    I wanna win something too!

  16. BTW, I’m still a guy….I’m assuming you are too…
    I meant to write
    Or maybe…another former Georgian blog?

    dang it!

  18. Too bad there wasn’t a youth pastor one … LOL
