Pedro for President
While we were planning this last week’s service, I started to think that I wanted someone in our church to share the testimony of how they came to Christ. The first person I thought of was my friend Pedro. Pedro has been attending our church for years and years, and he was a real encouragement to me when I first came here. So I asked him if he would share, and he obliged me.
We ended up having this amazing service on Sunday, and he was able to be a part of it – more than he may know. He shared about his life in the state prison of Massachusetts and how one of his old friends had come to visit him there in the late 80′s, who had turned his life around, went to Bible college, and became an assistant pastor at what is not Fellowship Church. This friend ultimately shared with Pedro the good news of the gospel, and soon Pedro made a decision to follow Christ.
After the service two things happened that made my day, and I hope Pedros too. The daughter of his friend who at one time was a pastor and shared Christ with him, attended our services with her husband for the first time in probably 15 years. Also, someone came to me after the service, who had just recently retired as a supervising commanding officer in the Massachusetts State prison system, and said this:
“Marty, when I went into this line of work, I set my bar high. I wanted to see people change because I believe they can. I wanted to see one person change after they left our prisons, but it never happened. Today I found that person. Now that I’m retired I found that person.”
I have nothing more to say today.
